Saros brings multi-writer synchronous distributed editing to the Eclipse IDE, e.g. for joint code reviews, explaining code remotely, or distributed pair programming. It includes refined awareness functionality. I created Saros as part of my diploma thesis on Distributed Pair Programming for Freie Universität Berlin, with consulting help by my thesis supervisors Christopher Özbek and Stephan Salinger.

Getting a job after university and not having much time anymore, I stopped active development on the project, but I’m very happy that the Software Engineering group at Freie Unversität  continued working on it. Over 12 related master/bachelor works have been written as of now.

Development: 2006/07

(Project is still very active, but without my involvement anymore)

Reach: Over 450,000 downloads so far.
